Solidarité & Progrès (abbreviated SP or S&P), which succeeded the Federation for a New Solidarity (FNS) and the European Workers' Party (POE), is a French political party. Its leader is Jacques Cheminade, a candidate in the French presidential elections of 1995, 2012, and 2017. It is the French branch of the LaRouche movement.
The LaRouche movement is a political and cultural network promoting the late Lyndon LaRouche and his ideas. It has included many organizations and companies around the world, which campaign, gather information and publish books and periodicals. LaRouche-affiliated political parties have nominated many hundreds of candidates for national and regional offices in the U.S., Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Australia and France, for almost thirty years.
Lyndon Hermyle LaRouche Jr. (1922-2019) was an American political activist who founded the LaRouche movement and its main organization, the National Caucus of Labor Committees. He was a prominent conspiracy theorist. He began in far-left politics in the 1940s and later supported the civil rights movement; however, in the 1970s, he moved to the far-right. His movement is sometimes described as, or likened to, a cult. Convicted of fraud, he served five years in prison from 1989 to 1994.
